High School Football
August 26th, 2008 by BeckAnother Section Five football season is almost here. The kids are going through three-a-day practices this week. Games will start shortly. Since my son broke his neck playing last year, he’s been banned from contact sports by a neck specialist. I used to say to him, “Play every game like it’s your last.” Not knowing for sure, that when he took the field last year in Brockport, it would be his final football game. I know high school football isn’t the be all to end all, but there’s nothing better than a game under the lights on a Friday night or a homecoming game on a Saturday afternoon. Isaac seems to be adjusting quite well to not being able to play. I, on the other hand, miss it. I enjoyed picking him up from practice, seeing him being a part of the team, and the discipline it provided in his life. He’s now doing karate and working in a restaurant. Regardless, here’s a salute to the players and their parents for the commitment it takes to play high school football. Good luck to all the teams. Whether your son is playing or not, go see a game and you’ll see what’s right with high school sports. Thanks for reading my blog and I’ll see you tomorrow on the radio.
